Australian Adventure Vol 3 – Paradise Pt 1 (of 3)

OK, so I finally got round to this. Been wanting to share for a while, just a bit busy lately. (Sidenote – Vol 1 and 2 were deleted in the hacking scandal, but I’mma have a look for them on my laptop, otherwise just post some photos)

After the cool New Year’s Eve and the customary recovery day, which included naps, the pool and a walk on the beach, on the 2nd we drove down to Brisbane and flew to Hamilton Island for 5 days. The flight in was pretty hectic, as we made a hard low turn between the surrounding islands (Air Crash Investigation flashes) and a bumpy landing on a short runway. Felt like we were gonna overshoot into the sea. So as far as I understood, the whole island is kinda run by one company. Its Hamilton Island this, Hamilton Island that. When you arrive, at the busiest smallest airport ever, they have buses and minibus’s waiting to whisk you off to your accommodation. (Or golf carts. We’ll get to that later). We stayed in these really nice apartments overlooking this incredible view. Strange thing was, when you are briefed at reception, you’re told to keep the aircon on at all times. The humidity is so high that mold starts to form within 24hrs of the aircons being off… And you need to keep your apartment sliding doors and windows closed when not there, so the cockatoos don’t come in ha ha! After the usual dump the luggage and check out the rooms/pamphlets/bathroom, we went down for a walk along the beach (Catseye Beach). Beautiful and warm and incredible. Along the walk we came across a Jacuzzi, 4 pools, a restaurant and 2 bars. One of the bars in the fourth pool! Let’s just say pool bars are one of my new favourite things. Had lunch at Sails restaurant, just off the beach and a swim in this amazing pool. Then of course later in the day, hit the pool bar hard. Drink of choice – Southern Comfort, coke n lemon. And then cocktails during their cocktail happy hour. We spent the next few days exploring the island really (and the pool bar). 3 shuttle buses run 3 different routes around the island and are free to island guests. So we would hop on and go down to the marina (little sea side town vibe) and look around, go get fish n chips, take photos.
